Obituary of Mona JOFFE

August 13, 1931 – Winnipeg, Manitoba May 10, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Mona Joffe, who passed away on Friday, May 10th after a heroic battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She faced this disease with remarkable courage and dignity. Mona was born on August 13th, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in a close-knit family in Eastend, Saskatchewan. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1952 with a BSc in Laboratory Technology. After her father passed away, Mona moved with her mother and brother to Calgary. She worked at the Calgary General Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital and, in later years, at the Elbow Drive Clinic, where she made life-long friends. Mona married Cyril Joffe in Calgary in 1958. They celebrated fifty-five happy years together until Cy’s death in 2014. She was also predeceased by her parents Abe (1953) and Pearl (née Naimark, 1986) Robins. Mona will be deeply missed by her four children, Risha, Ari (Deanna), Joan and Ken; grandchildren Rachel, Jacob, Talia, Isaac, Eva and Misha; devoted brother Murray Robins; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We sincerely thank Mona’s healthcare providers and compassionate caregivers for helping her stay comfortably at home over many years. She was cared for in her last few days at Chinook Hospice. Special thanks to Brella Claudio, Mona’s live-in caregiver and companion. Funeral service will take place at Temple B’nai Tikvah on Monday, May 13th at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at the Erlton Jewish Cemetery (Erlton Street and 32nd Avenue SW).
