Obituary of Lillian Virginia Young

August 28, 1930 - Sydney, Nova Scotia

December 6, 2022 - Airdrie, Alberta

Lillian Young, beloved wife of the late William Ralph Young, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the age of 92 years.

Lillian (Lil) along with her husband William (Bill) were the owners of Young’s Sight & Sound Music Store in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS for many years.    Upon retirement Lil and Bill moved to Bedford, NS, also spending the winter months in Florida.   Lil moved to Airdrie, AB with her son and daughter-in-law in 2018 where she resided at The Hamlets, Cedarwood Station, then Airdrie Care community.

Lil loved to meet new people would always get their life story with a smile and twinkle in her eye.  Lil loved making new friends and would go out of her way to make them feel welcome.  She was a graceful, kind, and compassionate lady.  If you were fortunate enough to become Lil’s friend, you were her friend for life.

Lillian is survived by her son Darcy (Darlene), granddaughter Stacey (Trevor Unger), great-grandchildren, Megan, Jakob, Adalie, granddaughter Cheryl (Ken Minkoff) great- grandchildren Ty and Madelyne as well as nephews Kenny (Carol) Williston, Brian (Diane) Williston, Bill (Vivian) Hill, nieces Gayle Ings, Diane Kendall, along with grand nieces / nephews and cousins.

Lillian was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Young, parents William and Florence Hill, sister Kay Williston (Malcolm) and brother Robert Hill (Jean) and nephew Murray Hill.

We would like to thank the staff at Airdrie Care Community for the care, comfort and support they provided to Lil these last few months.   Thank you also to the staff and residents at Cedarwood who made Lil feel welcome and befriended her when she first moved to Airdrie, AB.  

There will be no funeral service as per Lillian’s wishes.    Lil will take her place beside her loving husband Bill, in Cape Breton, NS, at a later date.

The family requests that those who wish to make a memorial tribute in remembrance of Lillian Young’s life donate to a charity of their choice.
