Obituary of Evelyn Grace McCool

September 5, 1938 - December 7, 2022

Evelyn McCool (nee Latimer) passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the age of 84 years.

Evelyn was born in Calgary, AB, on September 5, 1938, the eldest of four children, to Myron and Thelma Latimer. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Madden, AB, and was known in the community as one of the “Latimer girls”. At that time, she and her sister Myrna rode to the schoolhouse by horseback. On May 10, 1957, Evelyn married the love of her life, Joe McCool. Shortly after, the couple was graced with their son Eldon, with their daughter Nora following a few years later. Evelyn took her role as wife, mother, and home maker seriously. She managed and ran the farm, as well as Joe’s many businesses, often while Joe worked away in Fort McMurray. As a couple, Evelyn and Joe moved to various locations within Alberta; from Calgary and Whitecourt in their early years, to Lamberton, Bashaw, Grand Cache, Hanna, Airdrie, and Cochrane in their later years.

Farming was prominent in their life together. Joe and Evelyn were proudest of their establishment and the operation of Blackjack Cattle Company, where they produced world-renowned Salers cattle. Their purebred Salers operation saw them marketing their cattle to all parts of the globe, from the USA to Australia and South America. After Joe, passed in 2011 Evelyn moved and lived until her passing at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, where she enjoyed calls and visits with her family and friends, and was entertained by following the pursuits of Donald Trump.

Evelyn is survived by her son Eldon (Christine), daughter Nora Davis (Darcy), grandchildren, Skyler (Cory) Crystal (Ryan), Christopher, and Katherine; great-grandchildren, Lyla, and Violet; and nieces and nephews.

As per Evelyn’s wishes no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in July 2023. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
