Obituary of Florence Reita Lowry
August 28, 1929 - Treherne, Manitoba
December 8, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce that Florence Lowry (nee McQuay), beloved wife of Leonard Lowry, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
Florence was born in Treherne, Manitoba, Canada, on August 28, 1929. Florence married Leonard in 1951 in Darlingford, MB, at the United Church. Florence and Leonard moved about for a number of years, but it was 1971 when they moved and settled in Alberta (High River and Calgary).
It was Florence’s dream to be a teacher from a young age and it was in 1947 when her hard work had paid off; Florence began teaching and graduated from the Manitoba Teachers College.
Florence had a passion for creativity. She enjoyed writing, singing, painting, crafting, story telling, poetry, and of course, card making.
Florence was an active volunteer wherever help was needed. She could be found at Shalem Haven leading the morning exercises, writing the daily joke on the whiteboard, or being a listening ear. She will be most remembered for her creativity, kind heart, humor, and good spirit.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Gloria Lowry (Calgary, AB), her two sons, Lorne Lowry (Calgary, AB) and Kelly Lowry (Magna Bay, BC); her daughter-in-law Karen Lowry (Magna Bay, BC); two grandchildren, Jennifer Hawkins (Daniel Hawkins), and Jese Stovka (Daley Stovka); and two great-grandchildren, Kendra Hawkins and Kaija Hawkins.
Florence is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Roger MacDonald (Prince George, BC); her sisters-in-law, Donna Cameron and Jean Hedley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Leonard Lowry, and her brother Robert McQuay.
A Celebration of Florence’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
