Obituary of Caterina Federico

August 31, 1932 – Teramo, Abbruzo, Italy

December 10, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Caterina Federico, beloved wife of the late Renato Federico, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years in 2018.

Caterina was born in Teramo, Abbruzo, Italy, on August 31, 1932. Caterina married Renato in 1959 in Teramo, Italy. Shortly after marriage, they immigrated to Calgary, AB, in 1959, to start a new life in Canada. They worked hard as immigrants, and Caterina worked as an office cleaner, eventually becoming the building supervisor until she retired. Renato and Caterina were very proud of their family home where Caterina enjoyed her passion of cooking.

Caterina loved cooking for her family, her sons’ friends, and especially her grandchildren. Caring for her grandchildren when they were young brought her great joy. In particular, taking her grandchildren shopping at The Bay downtown, and then to play in at Devonian gardens was something they did often. Caterina was very proud of her sons, and grandchildren. Caterina remained living at her home in Bridgeland until she passed away which was her only wish.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, neighbors, nurses, and physicians that helped her to stay at home; Anne Pulickal, Mike Boutin, Dr. Kathy Savoia, Dr. John Nesbitt, and Calgary Homecare Services.

Caterina is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law; Marco and Tammy, Carlo and Patty, Paolo and Tanya; grandchildren Ryan, Renny, Tory, Brodie, Alyssa, and Matthew; great-granddaughters Keyleigh, and Piper; sister and brother-in-law Bruna and Toni Perini; and many nieces, and nephews in Italy. Besides her loving husband Renato, Caterina was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Marcella and Lucia; and her brothers Gaetano, and Vincenzo.

Due to COVID and flu outbreaks, please do not attend if you are feeling unwell or if you feel uncomfortable. The safety of family, and friends is our priority.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
