Obituary of Doris Elsie Brown

May 6, 1935 – Shoal Lake, Manitoba

December 12, 2022 - Didsbury, Alberta

Doris Brown of Didsbury, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

She was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba on May 6, 1935.  One of her earlier jobs was in Brandon working for the Manitoba Power Commission.  She met George Brown who was in the Air Force and their adventures began.

Doris was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved curling, hockey, camping, the beach, and travel. One of the most remembered trips was a favourite family vacation to Prince Edward Island. Doris enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially all the cherished blankets she lovingly made for her grandkids and great-grandkids. She spent many hours reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles, loved a game of Bingo and the occasional spin when an opportunity presented itself.  She had been an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years and a woman of strong faith. 

She will be most remembered for her honesty, love, kindness, and caring nature however she was a woman who knew what she wanted and wasn’t shy to tell you.  She instilled those values in her loved ones and that continues to serve them well.

Doris is survived by her sister Pat Hay. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Rose Yarish, her husband George Hale Brown, her brother Dave Yarish, and her grandchildren Maeve, Michael, and Mathew.

Doris is also survived by her children Lori (Claude), Susan (Mark), Ken (Phyllis), Cindy (Glenn) and Richard (Genny); her grandchildren Eric, Karen, Kristen, Nikki, Jennifer, Melissa, Sara-Jane, Ashley, Katie, Jacquie, Stephanie, Christopher, and Rachel, and several great-grandchildren.

A special thanks for all the selfless love and compassion the staff at Bethany showed mom in her final days.

She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
