Obituary of Lorena Joy Horvath

December 26, 1945 - St. Paul, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorena Horvath beloved wife of Robert "Bob" Horvath on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the age of 76 years, from the effects of a serious stroke.

Lorena was born in St. Paul, Alberta, to parents Everest and Laura Lilje, and resided in the Ashmount area in her adolescence. The family subsequently moved to the Drayton Valley Area where Lorena completed her schooling and met her future husband, Bob.

Being the ever-caring individual, Lorena answered a calling to embark on a Nursing career. She and her husband Bob relocated to Calgary where Lorena worked in the original Alberta Children’s Hospital, and after having a family, at the University of Calgary - Health Sciences Centre.

Lorena loved and was blessed with a wide circle of friends. She loved her family very much, always going out of her way to put their needs first. She often volunteered her time to community and other causes.

She loved to travel and with her husband, visited many parts of the world, from Inuvik, to the south tip of South America, many parts of the United States, Caribbean, Mexico, Eastern and Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China, and many Asian countries. She especially enjoyed long exotic cruises.

Lorena very much enjoyed her wide community of friends at the Calgary Winter Club where she was active in many sports including tennis and bowling for almost 50 years.

Lorena is survived by her husband of 55 years Bob; her son Michael of Elkford BC; her daughter Cheryl (Shaun) Toker and grandchildren Hailey and Tristan of Calgary; her sisters Mildred Fry (Jim) of Hinton, and Arlene Harrison (Bruce) of Spruce Grove; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lorena was predeceased by her parents Everest and Laura; and her brother Berdett (Connie).

A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
