Obituary of Joanne (Jo) Denise Poole

November 1, 1961 – Vancouver, British Columbia

December 11, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Joanne Denise Poole, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the age of 61 years.

Joanne was born in Vancouver, BC. When she was three, her brother Brian was born, whom Joanne was a great sister to. Brian had many problems, at the age of four he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, and sometime later it was determined Jo was a carrier as of course was her mother. Despite her own challenges, Joanne loved to be with Brian until his passing at the age of eighteen.

Joanne excelled in school and was always at the top of her class. When Joanne finished school, although she wanted to go to university it was not possible, instead she went to work. Joanne lived in Calgary most of her life and made many lasting friendships. Joanne and her best friend Wendy joined a Belly Dancing Group of which she was a member of for 25 years. She also enjoyed travelling with her mom and stepdad, as well as friends; always going to Manzanillo, Mexico.

Joanne began to have heart problems twenty years ago, which resulted in many hospital visits and a defibrillator implant. Joanne moved to live with her mom and after a couple months, decided to sell her own home and car.

Besides her loving mother, Joan, she is survived by her best friend Wendy and dear friends, Alice and Georgette all of Calgary. Jo is also survived by her close friend Payo of Mexico; her aunt, Ruth Mann; cousins, Lisa and Chad; and her uncle Gerry Poole; as well as numerous other friends in Calgary and Mexico. Joanne was predeceased by her father George, and her brother Brian.
