Derrell was a kind-hearted, hard-working man. He always put others first. He was a pillar of great strength to the community as his given Indian name Wîcha Wathte Rhmuyanû.

He was an avid sportsman participating in all sports, volleyball, baseball, hockey, rodeo, pow-wow, and golf. He was also a referee in hockey. Most of all his passions were horses and dedicated time with his family.

Derrell was an active member at the Morley United Church, every Christmas he would ensure that the church nativity scene was put up with lights, and he always had the Christmas tree ready for the candlelight service on Christmas Eve.

He took pride in his work, had an amazing attitude in any situation and was a person who would give you the shirt off his back if anyone needed it. He never refused when he was called upon by anyone, family friends or co-workers he wouldn’t let you down.
