Robert Scott

Obituary of Robert Edward Scott

December 5, 1938 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

December 14, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert (Bob) Scott passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the age of 84 years with his beloved dog Archie by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Donna. He leaves behind his four children, Darlene (Gwen), Deborah, Robert (Shawna), and Colleen; grandchildren, Cameron (Jess), Colby (Carmen), Connor, and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Kade, Teagan, and Leah; brother-in-law John McLean; and numerous fur babies, and grand fur babies!

Bobby, aka Boomer, had an adventurous spirit. We always enjoyed hearing stories of his childhood, like the time his mother looked out the window to see her little Bobby jumping onto ice flows down the Red River in Winnipeg. He was a drummer in the sea cadets marching band. He was stationed in Vancouver and was part of the welcoming ceremony for Prince Philip on his royal visit to Canada in 1951.

In 1960, Dad married his sweetheart. They remained together until mom’s passing in 2015. During their life together, they enjoyed camping, travelling, great friendships, family time, and lots of laughter.

He enjoyed duck hunting and fishing in his younger years. He had great joy going fishing on Lake Winnipeg and catching a string of fish, so the family could have a fish fry for breakfast at Scott’s North Quarter in Ponemah, Manitoba. Countless summer nights were spent at the cottage playing games. Dad’s favourites were cribbage, Romoli, Mille Bournes, and hearts. We celebrated Boxing Day together with the family and extended family playing games; we still call Boxing Day games day! Dad will forever remain the hearts champion!

He had a life-long career in sales. He started at a young age in his family’s business, Scott’s manufacture sales. This carried onto other amazing furniture companies. He finished off his career with over 25 years of service with La-Z-Boy Canada. He received multiple awards for salesman of the year.  Mom and dad relocated to Calgary in 1989, where dad retired at the age of 65. He then went onto a part-time sales position at his own venture at Heritage Market for several years.

He had an extended family with his brotherhood in Beaver Lodge, with over 50 years decorated member of Freemasons, as well a dedicated member of Scottish Rite receiving his 33rd degree, and he was a member of The Royal Order of Jesters.  During his many years of service with Shriners, he was a member of the Classic Car Club and participated in several parades throughout Alberta.

He left us an amazing gift of appreciation of jazz music. Countless evenings were spent with a good bottle of scotch, a large cigar, and vinyl records spinning into the wee hours.

Dad remained an avid reader and enjoyed family get togethers. His favourite spot for a Sunday drive was the Longview Trail to Kananaskis.  He was a devoted Jets fan until his move to Calgary, then he became a Flames Fanatic. He also enjoyed cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he lived in Toronto for a short time as a young boy. His love of sports did not stop at hockey, he loved baseball, curling, and football. He coached youth hockey and baseball while back in Winnipeg during his kids’ teenage years. He enjoyed playing golf and even ventured down the “gaming” road and enjoyed defeating all the quests in the Zelda game series.

Dad you will be missed. Love you xo.

We are happy you and mom are together again.

A private family gathering will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
