December 15, 2022 - Strathmore, Alberta

On December 15, 2022, our dear Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, Dorothy Ashton, passed away peacefully with her family in Strathmore, AB.  At 86 years of age, she gently slipped into the loving arms of Jesus.

Dorothy was born November 14, 1936, in Toronto, Ontario, and was named Dorothy Mary Ashworth. She was the fourth child of Winnifred and John Ashworth.  She was predeceased by her siblings Robert, Fred, Tom, and Carol.  Dorothy is survived by her two brothers Allan and Ken.

She was a woman of faith and a woman of prayer.  Dorothy was a mother to five children.  Throughout her life, she volunteered for the Catholic Women’s League, Brownies, and Girl Guides in Port Hope, Ontario. She enjoyed history, ancestry, writing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and had a huge love for animals. She was venturous and tried new skills such as canoeing and white-water rafting.

Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Ashton. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathie (Doug), Dori (Doug), Theresa, Kennetha (Tom); and her son Timothy along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Private Family Service will be held.

The family would like to extend their deep thanks to Dr. Young, the nurses and caregivers at Sagewood, Strathmore and the many people who cared for Mom over the years.  Her caregivers went above and beyond in caring for Mom with love, gentleness, and kindness in her final days.

In living memory of Dorothy Ashton, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive, Airdrie, AB T4B 3L8, Telephone: 403-948-1100.
