December 15, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

This is just one story, but it isn’t the end. There will be so many more. Stories that will be retold, cherished, embellished, and laughed about. For these are the stories of the most amazing man.

There will be stories about his beginning years. Ashley Aaron Cuthbert Mawdsley was born on March 25, 1982, in Calgary, Alberta, to Bert (Cuthbert) and Alva Mawdsley. Although Ashley lost his dad when he was only 10 years old, his character was forged by his father who greatly impacted his young life. Bert taught life’s vital lessons to be obedient, diligent, and patient. His relationship with his mother Alva was extremely close and they spoke all the time.

There will be stories about his career and skills from his early days at Millennium where he first met Liss, to his thriving business at Blvd Motoring, and always with his best friend Dow at his side. Ash was accomplished at many things, as everyone around him would tell you. From his grade 6 Mathematics Award, and the Athletics and Academic Award in Junior High, Ashley was also an accomplished piano player. He was an avid golfer and was one of the twelve juniors in the city of Calgary chosen to play in the DeMaurier Open in the Priddis Golf and Country Club. From trading crypto, to building custom motorcycles, his intelligence and talents are indisputable. He was the smartest, most distinguished man anyone could meet.

There will be stories about his adventures, and there were many. From his early days, everyday was an adventure. He lived life to the fullest. Many stories we will all keep close to the chest, but we remember limos to the club every night, numerous BC trips, and the trip of a lifetime to Paris where Liss and him planned to live one day.

There will be stories about his friendships, lifelong companions who were Ash’s family. His people were so special to him, and he had a long list of best friends who all held a unique place in his heart. Ash had an amazing infectious laugh. He could always be counted on, when you called, Ash was there. It wouldn’t matter when you called him or what kind of day he was having, he would answer your call with a smile on his face. He had the most beautiful smile.

There will be stories about his family, his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Sue, who treated him as their own son. Paul spoke with Ash multiple times per day, they were joined at the hip. Ash often referred to Paul as his father, their love for each other and their special relationship was unmatched. Ash treated his nephews like his own kids, Christian, Lucas, and Aaron adored him, and the feeling was mutual. Ash was the brother Cher never had, and she will miss the great conversations they had on a daily basis, and his brother-in-law Brendon, who he shared a love of racing with. He will also be missed by his large extended family in Toronto.

There will, of course, be stories about the loves of his life, his buddy Joshua and his munchkin Monroe (Money). Joshua was his pride and joy and Ash spoke daily about how proud he was of his son. He truly lived for his family, and they lived for him. He was their fierce protector, their rock, their light, and most importantly, he was their world. His gentle approach with his children was unrivaled.

And last but not least, there was the center of his universe, his world, his reason for living, his soulmate, his best friend, his loyal confidant, his babes - Liss. There’s nothing on earth that could separate them and their 20+ year love affair. It was a relationship of mutual adoring, obsession, and passion. They made each other better people, they raised each other up, theirs was a love of the ages, one that cannot be replicated. They lit up any room they walked into with their love. The way he looked at her made everyone believe in love. There was no Ash without his Liss. His ride or die. Bonnie and Clyde. There was nothing they couldn't get through or accomplish as long as they had each other.

We are heart broken and words can’t describe the loss felt by us all. But our love of Ash will tie cords between us that cannot be torn apart. We know he is in heaven with our dear heavenly Father, his father Bert, his grandmother Zelma, his gran Caroline, and his companion Phoenix. He is shining down on us, knowing no pain or disappointment, and we can’t wait until the day that we are joined with him again.
