Gordon Mazerolle

Obituary of Gordon George Mazerolle

May 18, 1958 – Calgary, Alberta

December 15, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness we announce Gordon Mazerolle, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the age of 64 years. Gord, or “Gordie” as he was affectionately known as, passed away peacefully in his sleep while awaiting major surgery which was unfortunately postponed many times over the past three years. We take comfort in knowing Gord is no longer in any pain.

Gord was born in Calgary, AB, Canada on May 18, 1958, to Camille and Grace (nee Kingston) Mazerolle. From the age of 3, Gord was lovingly raised by Grace’s sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Denis Desaulniers, in Chatham (Miramichi), NB, and Bagotville, QC. Gord would go on to become a proud big brother to Dwayne (Susan), Dean (Lisa), and Darren (Lyse) Desaulniers.

On December 18, 1982, Gord married the love of his life, Beverly (nee Pearen). Married for just shy of forty years, Gord and Bev shared a lifetime of wonderful memories together: the birth of their daughter Michelle in 1984, the birth of their son Terence in 1987, adopting numerous beloved family pets, and attending countless concerts and hockey games.

Gordon loved playing baseball, Yahtzee, listening to music, and of course, cheering on his favourite team, the Boston Bruins. Gord was as true a Bruins fan as there ever was and one of his most cherished memories was watching the Bruins win the 2011 Stanley Cup while celebrating with his wife and two children.

Gord was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be most remembered for his sense of humour: Gord was a man of many jokes, barely able to contain his excitement as he dropped the punchline!

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Gorrie and Dr. Moore for their care of Gord over the past couple of years.

Besides his loving wife Beverly, Gordon is survived by his daughter Michelle (Marc-Élie), and son Terence. Two years ago, Gord became a grandfather, a role he truly embraced. Gord’s love for his granddaughter Zoé knew no bounds: he wanted everyone he knew, and even strangers, to know just how proud he was of his little “Jellybean”.

Gord is also survived by his wonderful siblings, brothers, Kenneth, and Richard Mazerolle; and sisters, Nancy Savoie (Mick), and Mona Belliveau (Terry); as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Although separated by distance, his siblings and their families were never far from his mind.

Gordon was predeceased by his father Camille, mother Grace, brother David, and sisters Marilyn and Kathy.

“Go Bruins Go”, we love you and miss you so much Gord. Until we meet again.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at here.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to consider donating to an animal shelter or sanctuary in Gord’s memory. Gord was a passionate animal lover and always said if he ever won the lottery, he’d purchase a large plot of land so he could spend his time rescuing animals.

In living memory of Gordon Mazerolle, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
