Earl Sorette

Obituary of Earl Douglas Sorette

October 4, 1935 - Bridgewater, Nova Scotia

December 18, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Earl Sorette announce his passing on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

Earl was born in Bridgewater, NS on October 4, 1935. He grew up loving the ocean and playing tennis, even becoming the local champion before moving to Montreal in 1955 to work with CIBC. While working for the bank, he met Carrill Paquette and married shortly after in 1960. They raised three beautiful children in Montreal until 1979, then the family moved to Calgary, where Earl became a realtor until his retirement in 2007.

Throughout his life, volunteering and giving back was one of his passions. He helped out with Scouts, a volunteer driver for the 88 Olympics, a frequent blood donor, a sidesman and fundraiser for his church and a regular canvasser for the Heart and Stroke foundation. He was involved with a local recycling company. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone and knew everyone in his community.

In addition to socialising, playing tennis and swimming, Earl also loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. Earl was an extraordinary storyteller never giving up an opportunity to share a word. He always put his family first and accomplished so much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his grandchildren. He will be most remembered for his gentle and kind soul, giving manor and always positive and optimistic attitude. None of us ever doubted how much he loved us.

Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Carrill; his three children, Laurie, Tracie and Craig (Keely); and his four grandchildren, Braeden (Rachel), Lilly, Kora and Amelia, great-grandchild, Penelope; and nieces and nephews.  Earl is also survived by sisters, Jean (Frank d.), Anne (Bob). He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn (Jordie d.).
