Obituary of Darlene Brenda Meyers (nee O'Brien)

May 15, 1940 – Sudbury, Ontario

December 18, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Darlene Meyers of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 82 years.

Darlene was born in Sudbury, ON, on May 15, 1940. She and her parents, Thomas and Bernadine O'Brien, moved west to Edmonton, AB, in 1952.

As a young adult, Darlene joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and was stationed at Senneterre, QC, for a time. After her term in the RCAF, Darlene married Douglas T. Meyers, of Eston, SK, whom she met while they were both in the Air Force. They were married on May 4, 1962, in Edmonton, AB.

Darlene worked in retail for many years, most notably Sears Canada at The North Hill Shopping Centre in NW Calgary. After retirement, she and her husband worked as Volunteer Campground Hosts in Kananaskis, which they both enjoyed. Darlene had a talent for handicrafts and made many unique and special items over the years.

Besides her loving husband, Doug Darlene is survived by her son Steven, and grandson Adam. Darlene was predeceased by her father Thomas O'Brien, daughter Brenda Meyers, and mother Bernadine O'Brien.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Heritage, 1708, 16th Avenue N, across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 23, 2022, at 1:00p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Darlene’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
