Lanfranco (Frank) Francescangeli, beloved husband of Carolyn Francescangeli (nee Virag) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Lanfranco, or Bello, as he was known at The Journey Club, was born in Magnadorsa di Arcevia, Ancona, Italy on February 20, 1940. Lanfranco’s mother passed away when he was four years old and his father when he was seven. He lived in an orphanage in Ancona shortly after his parents' passing. Lanfranco came to Canada when he was fifteen, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Pier 21 in September 1955. Lanfranco married Carolyn on November 4, 1967, in Port Colborne, Ontario where they lived the majority of their married life. In April 2019, they moved to Calgary, Alberta.

Lanfranco was a member of and volunteer at the Italian Mutual Benefit Society and was the President and member of the Port Colborne Bocce Club. He and his friends were founders of the Sir John Colborne Soccer Club where he managed, coached, and refereed.

Upon arriving in Port Colborne, Lanfranco lived with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. In his younger years he had many jobs including picking carrots, working at a shoe factory, pinboy at a bowling alley, working on a tobacco farm, and delivering bread.  His professional career was primarily spent at the International Nickel Company where he retired at the age of 55.

Lanfranco enjoyed playing soccer and was very involved in the minor soccer community. His passions included tending to his garden and fruit trees, wine making, hunting, bowling, bocce, playing cards and golfing with his friends.

Lanfranco and Carolyn loved to travel and were fortunate to take many vacations. Some of the places they visited included Europe, South America and tropical destinations. His most memorable vacation was taking his family to Italy to see his homeland.

Lanfranco is survived by his wife Carolyn Francescangeli, his daughter Tara (Stephen) ten Den of Greely, Ontario, his son Marc (Monica) Francescangeli of Calgary, Alberta, and his five grandchildren, Reid ten Den, Gabriel ten Den, Sophia Francescangeli, Grace Francescangeli and Audrey Francescangeli. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins who were very dear to his heart.

Lanfranco was predeceased by his parents, Carlo Francescangeli and Palmira Francescangeli (nee Burattini); his brothers, Giuseppe (Bianca) and Elio; and his sister Annunziata (Torello).

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Port Colborne, Ontario. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
