August 25, 1933 - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

December 19, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Betty Joy LeSourd of Calgary, AB, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the age of 89, surrounded by family.

Betty was born on August 25, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her family later moved to San Francisco, where she attended school and developed her endearment for the San Francisco 49ers. Betty's passion for travel led to a new career path as a flight attendant for Western Airlines. Betty had many captivating stories from her Convair flying days. Undoubtedly, the most consequential was the flight to Calgary, which resulted in meeting the love of her life, Bill. Calgary soon became home as they started a family.

Betty was a wonderful mother and wife. She was always known for her kind and generous demeanor. Over the years, she volunteered in numerous charitable organizations, including the Rotary Club, the United Way, and the Junior League of Calgary.  Betty and Bill enjoyed several miraculous trips over the years, each resulting in new experiences and lasting friendships. In addition to numerous cruises abroad, her favorite family vacation was the summer holiday at Flathead Lake Lodge in Montana. They spent almost 40 years together travelling to the Lodge in Bigfork. Betty's highlight each summer would be spending time with her precious grandchildren as they enjoyed the ranch activities.

Whether travelling or at home, Betty was passionate about all culinary experiences. She loved experimenting with new recipes and adored entertaining and hosting dinner parties with good friends. Betty's passion for food led to her business venture with close friends Donna and Rita, who created the Skinny Gourmet/Truffles Darling store. Other hobbies Betty enjoyed included playing bridge and attending book or investment club meetings.

Betty is survived by her son Robert and daughter-in-law Judy; her daughter Jeannie and son-in-law Chris Boardman; grandchildren, Samantha (Mike), Danielle (Luke), and Lisa (Jake); and great-grandchildren, Vivian and Cohen. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill and grandchildren, Richard, and Stephanie.

The family would like to express gratitude to Bonnie Jones, Donna, Stella, Roselyn, Gale and the entire team of caregivers with Home Instead for their ongoing care and compassion. In addition, we greatly appreciate the assistance from Dr. Tremblay, Dr. Lohmann and the Palliative Home Team.

As per Betty’s wishes a small family service will be held and a celebration of her life will take place in the New Year. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
