Obituary of Victor Carmelo Scaglione

December 18, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor Scaglione, beloved husband of Virginia (nee Aquino), of Calgary, Alberta, on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 85 years.

Victor was born in Pietrafitta Cosenza, Italy on November 17, 1937, and immigrated to Canada in 1953 to join his brother. In 1961, he returned to Italy where he met the love of his life Virginia.  They got married in Toronto in 1965 and moved to Calgary shortly after. Victor worked as an Electrician for 17 years before going off to work on his own as a Painter and Decorator.

He had a passion for cars, music, and art, but his biggest passion was his family. He enjoyed getting together with his family and friends, especially spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandson.  He was a kind and happy man and always stayed positive, laughing, and joking, even through hard times. He was a true gentleman, always very generous and eager to help anyone in need. Victor was a musician and loved to play the accordion, often playing at restaurants, weddings, and parties.

Victor will be most remembered for being an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was loved by all.

Besides his loving wife of 57 years, Victor is survived by his daughter Julie, son Carlo, grandson Steven (Casandra), as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada and Italy.

Victor was predeceased by his parents Raffaele and Giulia, his sister Gilda, his brother Peter, and sister Maria.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church (640 - 19 Avenue NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the ALS Society of Alberta, 7874 – 10 Street NE, Calgary, AB T2E 8W1, www.alsab.ca.

The family would like to thank the first responders, doctors and nurses at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their care, the ALS Society, and the caregivers at Bayshore HealthCare.
