Cesar Suva

Obituary of Cesar Andres-Miguel Suva

March 3, 1974 – Manila, Philippines

December 19, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with broken hearts that the Suva family announces the passing of Cesar Andres-Miguel Suva on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the age of 48 years.

He is survived by his wife of almost seventeen years, Elaine Garcia Suva, his mother Teresita Dizon Suva, father Cesar Guzman Suva, and younger brother Jose-Adriano Suva.

Cesar is predeceased by his grandparents, Candelaria and Amando Dizon, and Evangeline and Jose Ibarra Suva.

He pursued a life of academia and ever-expanding social circles internationally. He was born in Manila, grew up in Edmonton, and completed his undergrad in Montreal. He then finished a master’s degree in Manila, where he met and married Elaine. He moved with Elaine to Calgary for further studies before achieving a Ph.D. in Canberra, Australia. Returning to Calgary once again to progress his professional career, Cesar ultimately became the Vice President of Research and Program Development at the Immigrant Education Society.

Cesar also followed many interests. He was drawn to the stage in various capacities, from high school drama productions to singing and writing songs with different rock bands in Canada and in the Philippines. He took care of his physical health with assorted activities, such as swimming in his youth, running, and beer league hockey in his later years. However, it is his love of history that would be a constant through his lifetime, defining the educational and professional paths he chose to follow.

Whether known as Cesar, Andy, or Andoy, his absence will be felt in the hearts of peers, friends, and family, and his memory will forever carry on.
