Obituary of Anastasia Lucy Patterson

June 3, 1938 – Mahaica, Guyana

December 25, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Anastasia Patterson (nee Dias), beloved wife of Evan Patterson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at the age of 84 years.

Anastasia was born in Mahaica, Guyana on June 3, 1938. She graduated from Mrs. Young's Commercial School and proceeded to work for the Guyana government for four years. She immigrated to England where she married Evan in 1963 and gave birth to Andre and Amanda. In the UK, she worked twelve years for the London City Council. In April of 1974, she moved for a new life in Toronto, Canada. She worked with the Ontario Ministry of Education for 22 years and in June 1999, moved to Calgary to be with Amanda and her family and Andre. She became a member of the First Baptist Church in Calgary and, through the church, volunteered with Open Door and the Norman Dabs Women's Ministry.

Anastasia accomplished much through her life and her proudest moments were living in Calgary with her children and grandchildren. Anastasia was an avid Blues Jay fan and had a passion for hospitality.

She will be most remembered for her spirit and laughter. When she went to the support groups, she always had a happy demeanour. Her 80th birthday was a celebration where she was surrounded by family and friends whom she loved dearly.

Besides her loving husband, Anastasia is survived by son Andre (Kim) of Cochrane, AB, daughter Amanda (Dexter) Ferreira, and four grandchildren, Rebecca (Kent) Nilson, Jarred, Julianne, and Patrick. She is also survived by her three brothers, Martin (Babsie) Dias of Brampton, ON, Richard Dias of Toronto, ON, Julian (Lynette) Dias of St. Petersburg, Florida; four sisters, Ellen Chung, of North York, ON, Judy (Clive) Lissone of Pickering, ON, Juliet (Jim) Taylor of Yorkshire, UK, and Donna (Vincent) DaSilva of Georgetown, Guyana.

Anastasia was predeceased by her parents, Ismay and Herman and four brothers, Stanislaus Dias, Peter Dias, Michael Dias, and Stephen Dias.
