Obituary of Violet May MacMurdo

Violet “Vi” MacMurdo, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

Vi was born in Medicine Hat, AB on August 8, 1933. She moved to Calgary, met, and then married Earle MacMurdo in June of 1951. She followed Earle around with his military career and even lived in Germany for some time. She and dad liked to scuba dive and camp.

Vi was an avid sports fan, she loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays, the Calgary Stampeders, and the Calgary Flames. Her NFL team was the Seattle Seahawks. She was always current and up to date with sports. She loved watching her sons and grandchildren play sports. She will be most remembered for her love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a smart wit and sassiness about her that could make us laugh.

Vi is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, John MacMurdo of Calgary, AB, Donald (Sandee) MacMurdo of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, Sheri (Micheal) Gilewich of Victoria, BC, Shawn (Mandy) MacMurdo of Calgary, AB, Chris MacMurdo of Calgary, AB, Colin (Kristine) MacMurdo of Calgary, AB and Cole MacMurdo of Calgary, AB; and also six great-grandchildren, Hailey & Keenan Gilewich of Victoria, BC, Liam & Jillian MacMurdo of Calgary, AB and Brady & Scotti MacMurdo of Calgary, AB.

Vi was predeceased by husband Earle MacMurdo in 2002, her parents John and Connie Matheson and her sister Johnanna (Joan) Woods.

God saw you getting tired, the cure was not to be. So, he wrapped you in his loving arms. And whispered “Come with Me.”

Family would like to thank the staff at Monterey Seniors Village for their care, and compassion for the last seven years that Vi lived there.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
