Carmel Letendre

Obituary of Carmel Lorraine Letendre

July 19, 1937

January 9, 2023

On the morning of January 9, 2023, Carmel Letendre (née Normandeau) passed away peacefully at the age of 85.

Carmel is predeceased by her husband Barney; son Edward (Eddie); parents Armand and Alice; brothers René, Albert, Roland, Raymond, and Dave; sisters Janet and Lea. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Theresa as well as the many members of her extended family.

Carmel was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, and spent much of her youth in Radville, Saskatchewan. When their mother passed away in 1958 following illness, Carmel took the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. She moved with her family to Calgary, where she met her future husband, Barney. They married in 1965 and in 1971 welcomed their cherished son, Eddie. Carmel and Barney spent many happy years in Calgary, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, as several of Carmel's siblings lived near-by. Carmel would often babysit her nieces and nephews and doted on her son.

Carmel sadly lost Barney in 2004 and Eddie in 2017. Although Carmel experienced great tragedy in her life, she had a gift for moving forward without letting grief harden her. In her final years, she found companionship with her boyfriend, Carlos, and was grateful to have the loving support of her family to depend on.

Carmel enjoyed keeping her home immaculately clean, loved her collectible bears, and always found time to watch her stories. She will be remembered for never being afraid to speak her mind, and for her commitment to her family, whom she loved.

Carmel always commented on the excellent care she received during her time at Shouldice Silvera, Care West Glenmore Park, and Age Care Glenmore. Her family would like to particularly thank caregivers who provided outstanding support and dignified care in Carmel's final days.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 14th, 2023, at 10:30AM.
