Maxine McClelland

Obituary of Maxine Joyce McClelland

July 29, 1947 – Calgary, Alberta

January 6, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with both sadness and relief that the family announces the passing of Maxine McClelland (nee McLeod).

Over the past 7 years she has suffered from Corticobasal Degeneration, a rare neurodegenerative disease that took away the use of her hands, her balance, her legs, her speech and finally, her life. She fought through it all to smile at those she loved, even if only through her eyes.

Maxine was born and raised in Calgary by Ron McLeod, an Alberta farm boy and Vicki McLeod, an English war bride, who had married in London during World War II. After graduating from Crescent Heights High School, she obtained Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees before her teaching career.

In 1970 she met and married James McClelland and together they raised two boys, Matthew and Steven. Though the last few years have been very difficult, she had spent many years before that traveling the world with Jay, enjoying the company of great friends, and laughing with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who have ever been touched by her love and friendship.

Along with her husband and children, she leaves behind two daughters-in-law Adala-Marie and Denise; five grandchildren Olivia, Sophie, Alex, Claire and Adele; a dear sister and brother-in-law Marg and Fred Hunt and their children Bradley (Deanna) and Julie (Brad).

Maxine was a close and trusted friend to many who, despite very difficult times, stood by her side and gave her their full support through to the end.
