Obituary of Emilio LoGullo

September 22, 1938 - Sartano, Cosenza, Italy

January 13, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved father and nonno, Emilio LoGullo passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the age of 84 years. Emilio is now reunited with his true love, Ida, waiting for him in heaven.

Emilio was born on September 22, 1938, in Sartano, Cosenza, Italy. He had many happy memories living his childhood with family and friends in a tight community in southern Italy, despite it being tough times during the war.

Emilio immigrated to Canada in 1959 in search of opportunity and a better quality of life. Upon arriving in Calgary, he was welcomed by family and friends and quickly became recognized as a pillar in his community.

Emilio married Ida (DeCiancio) on June 1, 1963, and they started their journey in life together. Many joyous memories were made living in Inglewood, where they happily welcomed and raised two daughters.

Emilio’s career centered around building and creating – he worked by trade as a cement finisher with Con Force for over 30 years. The fruits of his labour live on at many iconic landmarks in Calgary to this day.

Emilio had many passions including gardening, making wine, cooking, and eating well. His great joy was spending time with family and friends by bringing them together and welcoming all into his home. Emilio loved to organize family gatherings and parties, especially picnics and bocce ball. He loved to travel and experience new places during family vacations, but his favourite was returning home to Italy.

Emilio’s greatest joy in life was his family. His world centered around his wife Ida and daughters Ada and Maria. He welcomed Jim and Jeff and loved them as his own sons. With the arrival of each of grandchild, his world grew more joyful, and he loved helping Ida nurture them as they grew up.

Emilio will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to know him. He will always be remembered as a happy and humble man. He truly loved life and found joy in the simple things. Always a smile on his face, had a kind heart and willing hand to help. His inspiration, unwavering perseverance, and commitment to giving of himself set a shining example for all of us.

Emilio is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Ada (Jim) Hillstead and Maria (Jeff) Lund, as well as his grandchildren, Madison, Emily, Anthony, and Lucas. He is also survived by his brother Franco (Anna) LoGullo and sister-in-law Elena Deciancio. Emilio will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in Calgary, Toronto, and Italy.

Besides his loving wife, Ida, Emilio was predeceased by his parents, Bruno LoGullo and Ada DeBartolo, and brothers-in law Gaetano, Oreste, Franco and Luigi Deciancio.
