Obituary of John Scott Ward

December 17, 1963 - March 31, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John Scott Ward, of Calgary, AB, on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the age of 59 years.

Born to Philip and Sheila (Scott) Ward on December 17, 1963, John grew up in Calgary enjoying both school and sports including baseball, hockey, and golf.

On a fateful day in 1989, at Joe’s Oyster Bar in Mazatlán Mexico, John met his future wife Cathy, and they were married in 1995. Other than four years in Singapore (2002-2006), they made their home in Calgary.

After working in logistics, John retired early and spent his days taking care of his family and spending many enjoyable hours on the golf course at Redwood Meadows. John and Cathy were deeply devoted to each other, enjoyed traveling the world, and loved spending time with family and friends.

John never let others’ expectations define him. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a clear understanding of what was important to him – the simplicity of living a life with those you love.

John was smart, kind, funny, and well-liked by most everyone who met him (there’s always one). Although he didn’t suffer fools (supported a few though), he would go out of his way to assist anyone in need.

John will be missed every day by his wife, Cathy Larson Ward; his father and mother, Phil and Sheila; brother David Ward (Trudy Eveleigh), sister Susan Bamber (Scott Somerville), sister-in-law Cindy Piepkorn (Lee Piepkorn), brother-in-law Brad Larson (Julie Charnota-Larson), his loving Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and many other family members and close friends.

John requested a celebration of life be held in his honor this summer and Officially Approved this Message!

If friends so desire, to honour his legacy memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca.
