Obituary of Guillermo Segundo Deuma

November 18, 1940 – Osorno, Chile

January 24, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

 

The family of Guillermo Deuma of Calgary, AB, Canada, is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the age of 82 years after a short battle with cancer.

 

Guillermo was born in Osorno, Chile. He studied to become a teacher at the Escuela Normal in Ancud, Chile; later continued his studies at the Universidad de Chile, sede Osorno to become a high school Science Teacher.

 

The military coup in Chile in 1973 forever changed his life and that of his family.  He fled to Argentina and lived there briefly until he immigrated to Canada, arriving in Calgary in 1976.

 

After arriving in Calgary, he worked a variety of jobs to provide for his family. His interest in electronics led him to earn an Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma at DeVry. He was also very involved with the Chilean Community, volunteering and participating in cultural events.

 

His love and passion for Chile was paramount and dear to his heart, he cherished his visits and telling stories about his homeland. Guillermo enjoyed tinkering in his garage and workshop, and he adored spending time in his garden, sitting under his apple tree and picking apples with his grandchildren were treasured and memorable moments.

 

He is lovingly survived by his wife Maria Marlis, his daughter Marcela (Troy) from Calgary, AB, his son Boris (Hilda) of Surrey, BC, and his deeply loved grandchildren Evan, Carina, Maya, and Mateo.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 2:00pm. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
