It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tracy Douglas Meyers, beloved husband of Theora Meyers, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the age of 71 years.

Tracy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 23, 1951. The oldest of four children, Tracy enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Brandon, MB and many summers were spent out at his family cabins in Clear Lake, MB and later, Minaki, ON where he enjoyed boating, waterskiing, playing games and enjoying laughs with family and friends.

Tracy received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1974. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Calgary, AB to start his long career with Chevron and to be closer to his university sweetheart, Theora.  The two were wed the following year in 1975. Tracy continued his studies and was certified with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.  His career path took him and his growing family to San Ramon, California from 1986 to 1990, and then back to Calgary until his retirement in 2014. Theora and Tracy recently moved to be closer to the river and mountains in Cochrane, AB.

Tracy’s faith was central to his life and he was a devoted member of the worship band, home groups and various leadership roles in the church.

Tracy had many hobbies, including woodworking, painting, guitar, golf, tennis, and biking, although his main passion was eating. Also an avid traveler, Tracy had many an adventure backpacking throughout Europe in his youth, trips to Israel, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, a missions trip to India, a sabbatical in Norway, visiting family and friends in the UK and New Zealand and numerous days on the beach at his favourite holiday destination, Hawaii.

Tracy will be remembered for his intelligence, his wit, and his generosity. Though the past several years were overcome with the effects of Parkinson’s disease, Tracy handled the challenges with the same patience, humbleness, kindness, humour and grace that he carried with him throughout his life.

Besides his loving wife, Tracy is survived by his three children and their spouses; Nathan and Kayleigh Meyers and their children Ember, Heath and Whitney of Airdrie, AB, Laura and Greg Palaschuk and their children Benjamin, Blake and Samuel of North Vancouver, BC and Victoria and Kyle O’Reilly of Calgary, AB. Tracy is also survived by his three siblings and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service in Tracy’s honour on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. James Anglican Church (6351 Ranchview Dr NW Calgary AB T3G 1B5), with reception to follow.  For those not able to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed, which you can watch at the link below.
