Obituary of Nicholas Andruckow

September 24, 1929 - Lamont, Alberta

January 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Nick Andruckow went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 27, 2023, at the age of 93 years.

Nick was born in Lamont, AB on September 24, 1929, and grew up on a farm in the area. He was the 5th of 7 children. After leaving Lamont, in his late teens, Nick found work with the Department of Highways. He started as a rodman and worked his way up to a junior instrumentation technician and eventually to a senior instrumentation technician.

It was while doing survey work in the County of Vulcan that Nick met Eleanor Hartung at the local bowling alley in the town of Vulcan. On May 28, 1955, Nick and Eleanor were married and began farming approximately 18 miles south-east of Vulcan, alongside Eleanor`s parents, Jacob, and Mary Hartung.

After marrying they were blessed with two much loved sons, Rod, and Randy, who helped out with the farming operation.  Nick and Eleanor farmed full time for 52 years. During that time Nick raised livestock, grew certified seed, which he sold to area farmers, and worked part time for Demeter Agro as a field inspector.

Nick and Eleanor remained actively farming until 2007 when they decided to retire. Upon retiring they moved to Vulcan, AB where they resided until 2019.

Nick had many pastimes he enjoyed doing with family and friends. He loved to travel and took numerous trips to the Hawaiian Islands, as well as travelling to Yuma in the winter months. He enjoyed RV-ing and the yearly church campout. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing hockey, baseball and numerous card games with family and friends.  Nick was also an active member of the Vulcan Evangelical Missionary Church where he served for many years.

In the spring of 2019 Nick and Eleanor decided to move to Calgary, AB where they would be closer to family.  On May 28, 2022 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, with pleasant memories of the days gone by.

Nick`s life was built on his faith, his family, and his friends. He was known as a humble, kind, and gentle man with a unique sense of humor.  He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed. Now he is exploring the wonders of heaven with those who have gone before him.

1 Corinthians 2:9   As it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him."

Nick is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; brother, Alec; two sons Rod (Judy) and Randy (Colette); four grandchildren, Jason (Sheena), Jaime (Len), Courtney (Tim) and Kristen; and six great-grandchildren. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Mike, and Caroline Andruckow; three brothers, Frank, Walter, and John, and two sisters, Adeline Paruk and Victoria Scarf.
