Obituary of Phyllis Safford
July 7, 1928 - Athabasca, Alberta
January 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis "Sue" Safford (nee Cordingley), who passed away peacefully after being surrounded by the love of her family, at Midnapore Age Care on January 27, 2023 at the age of 94.
Sue was born on July 7, 1928 in Athabasca, AB. She was a twin, born to a homesteading farm family of twelve, including five brothers and four sisters.
She met the love of her life Leon in 1953, and they were married in 1954. Many happy years were spent travelling rural Alberta, and Australia before settling in Calgary in 1965.
Sue’s main passion was the love and care of her family. She also loved to garden - her vegetable garden and flower garden were a labour of love. Leon and Sue enjoyed camping and being in the great outdoors. They had a boat and trailer well into their 80's. They especially loved it when their family could join them.
Sue will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sue is survived by her husband, Leon; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ken; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Barb; two grandchildren, Brad (Marlene), and Ryan (Gabriella); great-granddaughter, Adelyn. Sue is also survived by two sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported Sue and her family during this difficult time. Special thanks to Agecare Midnapore for all of their compassionate care, always a smile or a hug to give.
In living memory of Sue, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
A Celebration of Life for Sue will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
