George Krahn

Obituary of George Stuart Krahn

August 9, 1935 – Wilson Lake, Saskatchewan

January 28, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness the family of George Krahn announces his peaceful passing at his home on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 87 years, doing what he loved best – watching the rodeo on his TV and playing cards on his iPad.

George was born on August 9, 1935, to George and Sarah Krahn in Wilson Lake, SK. George met and later married Marjorie (Mickey) in Swift Current, SK, on April 28, 1956. George and Mickey moved to Calgary in the summer of 1964. George spent many years driving an 18-wheeler, he also worked at Pioneer Paving and then as a Maintenance Supervisor at “the nursing home” prior to his retirement.

George brought so much joy to so many lives. He had a knack for working with his hands. “If it needed fixing, Granpa could fix it.” Many of George’s family and friends proudly display in their homes creations, usually made from oak, built by George. In the latter years George developed a love for cooking for his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time having a coffee and a bowl of mushroom soup at Atlas Pizza. Fishing was another love that George enjoyed sharing with his friends and especially his brother Alvin.

George shared with Mickey an enjoyment for travelling in their motorhome to numerous rodeos, especially the CFR and NFR. While travelling they enjoyed sharing many a beer and making and sharing many meals with their cowboy family.

George is survived by his three children, Lonnie Krahn (Jeanette), Diane Day (Andrew), and Darren Krahn. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, George McClelland, Terry McClelland (Jeanette) and Brandy Collins (Jay-D); and great-grandchildren, Adrianna McClelland, Dayton Collins, Eve McClelland, and Carly McClelland. George is also survived by his brother Danny (Bev), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie (Mickey) Jane Krahn (nee Green), father George, mother Sarah, and two brothers, Jake, and Alvin.

Graveside Services will be held at Queens Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary) on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. Please meet at the Cemetery entrance at 12:20 p.m. A Celebration of George’s Life will follow at the Forest Heights Community Association (downstairs) (4909 Forego Avenue S.E, Calgary) on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
