Obituary of Sophie Anne Lang

July 3, 1933 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

January 29, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Our sweet, gentle angel has received her heavenly wings. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sophie Anne Lang of Calgary, Alberta, on January 29, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Sophie was a sweet, gentle, strong, kind soul who could hug like no other. We will forever miss her brownies, perogies, apple pie, butter tarts, ginger sparklers, patient listening, and kind words of encouragement! There was no such thing as an in-law to Sophie, she loved and treated them all like they were her own. Sophie’s love was unconditional.

Sophie was employed by Calgary Power and Bishop Carrol High School. Sophie was an avid reader, gardener, and traveller. She was most passionate about her children. Her most memorable vacations were to Hawaii, being a Snowbird in Arizona, and swinging on her swing at Dickson Damn. Sophie (Chicky), beloved wife to John, was married for 69 years, and her proudest accomplishments were her children.

She is survived by her children, Lila (Kelly) of Calgary, Greg (Laurie) of Vancouver, and Grant (Charlene) of Calgary; her grandchildren, Alicia (Jayme) of Calgary, Selena of Vancouver, Mathew of Vancouver, and Matt and Kellie of Calgary; and her great-grandchildren, Jayla, Aliya, and Livie of Calgary. Sophie was predeceased by her granddaughter Amie Kathleen.

It warms our hearts that Mom is with Aunty Helen having big belly giggles and long awaited snuggles and hugs reading with Amie!
