Obituary of Claire Branner
BRANNER, Claire Isobel
June 22, 1928 – Windsor, Ontario
January 31, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Claire Isobel Branner (nee Davison) of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the age of 94 years.
She was born in Windsor, ON on June 22, 1928, to Fraser and Elizabeth Davison. Claire lived in Sarnia, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ponoka before settling in Calgary with her husband Mel Branner and her growing family. She worked as a library clerk in several libraries until she retired. After living in Lethbridge for twelve years, she returned to Calgary in 2020. She was an incredible knitter, creating many wonderful sweaters, mitts, and hats. She knit and sold over 700 headbands donating the proceeds to charity. She was an avid reader and was a founding member of a book club at her church in 2001 that continues to meet monthly. She loved to travel, play bridge, scrabble, card and trivia games. Lemon meringue pie and dark chocolate were her favourite treats, and she always enjoyed a good laugh.
Claire is survived by her sister Christine Davison, daughters, Isabelle and Laura; sons, David and Bob; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Mel Branner, infant grandson and sister Marion Toms.
Claire's family passes along a special thank you to Dr. Mirza and all the caregivers at St. Teresa Place in Calgary, AB for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca St SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. The service will be livestreamed at:
