February 1, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Lemuel MacDonald passed away peacefully at the Tom Baker Hospital in Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lem was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on December 30, 1959, to Leonard Alexander and Elizabeth MacDonald (nee Waidmann). He graduated in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Calgary and was fluent in three languages. He worked in his field (oil and gas) for government, corporate, as well as his own company. Later, he got into the land development business, mostly in the neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant.

He mentored many in downhill skiing, as an enthusiastic snow host at Sunshine and Castle Mountain, or running his infamous bus trips. He loved all music and eclectic performances as a 32-year volunteer at the Calgary Folk Festival, as well as a regular patron of local concerts, shows, and festivals, where he was often accompanied by his dog Luna, Nootka, or MacQuinna. Lem enjoyed over 750 runs in 22 years, as a participant and organizer with the Calgary Hash House Harriers.

He is survived by his daughter Cassandra Alexis Safran MacDonald. He was loved and will be missed by so many.
