Obituary of Vladimir Orlando Leon

August 30, 1967 - Santiago, Chile

January 30, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved son Vladimir Orlando Leon as a result of heart failure on Monday, January 30, 2023, at the age of 55.

Those who knew Vladimir, even just a little, knew him as a kind and generous son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, cousin, nephew, and friend. He had so much goodness, so much capacity to bring happiness to others and such a big heart. There was an aura about him that even with one encounter, you would remember for life. The world is a lesser place without his infectious laugh and loyal sense of humour.

He is survived by his parents, Orlando and Elena Leon; sisters, Darling, Noemi, Myriam, Judith, Valentina (Gerald), and Danise; brother Mischa (Kim); his daughters, Katrina, Kyla, and Adeleine; son Mekko; stepson Christian; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Vladimir was predeceased by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, brother-in-law Ramon, and his favourite aunt, Mirta.

Vladimir grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. His love of sports led to his participation in the Calgary Special Olympics, which made us all very proud. A dedication to the sport of soccer leaves an endless impact on the soccer community. His volunteer work with The Magic of Christmas in the role of Santa allowed him to fill the hearts of many children. He never missed an opportunity to surprise us, with a poinsettia at Christmas or chocolates at Easter.

His appreciation and dedication to his work led him to succeed in his numerous positions in the City of Calgary (Parks & Recreation) and Calgary Transit. His last days were spent working at McMahon Stadium, with his favourite moments being spent with the players.

An enthusiastic and spontaneous traveller, he took every opportunity to venture with no particular destination. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping.

Most importantly, Vladimir had a deep love for his kids, nieces, nephews, and family, and cherished the time they would spend together. He will continue to stay with us all through memories, and the laughs he forced us to endure whether we were in the mood for it or not.

He left us all prematurely and we will never be the same again.
