Obituary of Georgette Salem-Abdallah

December 31, 1926 – Jib Jannine, Lebanon

February 4, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Georgette Salem of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the age of 96 years.

Georgette is lovingly remembered by her children, Aida (Roger), Joseph (Ghada), Huguette (Shady), and Maha (Dale); grandchildren, Rida (Jeremy), Rafi, Sheena (Jared), Ryan, Jason, Yara (Marwan), and Elias; and great-grandchildren, Ayla, Lena, Ellis, and Sophie, as well as numerous nephews and nieces living around the world. She is predeceased by her husband Elias, five brothers, a sister.

Georgette was born on December 31, 1926 in Jib Jannine, Lebanon, to Khalil and Ghantusi. Georgette married Elias and shortly thereafter became a loving mother and grandmother. Georgette devoted her life to her family raising her children between Beirut and Jib Jannine in the summers. In 1990, she moved to Calgary to join her children Aida, Huguette, and Maha, and their families. Since then, she lovingly became “Tata” to more than her children and their families but by everyone who got to know her. She will always be remembered for her strong will, quiet demeanor, and for loving and blessing her family above all else.

Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Our Lady of Peace Parish - Calgary Maronite Catholic Church (504 – 30th Avenue, NW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Salem-Abdallah’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
