Obituary of Julianne Mary Martin

MARTIN, Julianne Mary

July 12, 2001 – Calgary, Alberta

February 4, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Julianne Martin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the age of 21 years.

Julia was born in Calgary, AB, on July 12, 2001. She was a big, beautiful baby weighing 9 lbs 3 ozs.

She was studying a Bachelor of Nursing at Mount Royal University and was very excited about her most recent clinical placement at the South Health Campus. She had compassion for the patients she had the opportunity to work with, and a desire to show them kindness and love. She expressed deep emotion about the importance of ‘putting your patient first, even if you’ve had a bad day, because that is why you become a nurse’. She was very fond of her nurse instructors in the program and proud of her ability to do well in her classes.

She was an equestrian for over ten years and loved her horses, Earl and Nitro. She accomplished so much in her years of riding and showing at Spruce Meadows and Rocky Mountain Show Jumping.  Taking Nitro from the 3 foot hunters up to the 1.30s in the Grand Prix Ring was something she was very proud of. Spending time at the barn was of comfort to Julia, and it was a very big part of her life.

She was excited about recently becoming an Auntie and loved her nephew, Noah, very much. She adored our beloved golden retriever Oskar, as well as her rescue cats Benny and Chloe.

As a child, Julia enjoyed family camping trips to Kelowna and Shuswap Lake and the time we spent with our BC friends.  Some of her favourite times were the many camping trips with her Mama & Papa and Alex at Mount Kidd in Kananaskis.

She enjoyed our trips to Vancouver Island to visit and spend time with her brother, Alex, and especially our times visiting Tofino with him.

Her family and friends were very important to her and she had close relationships with them, especially her Mama.

Animals loved Julia and she loved them. If you would like to honor Julia, a donation could be made to the Calgary Humane Society

www.calgaryhumane.ca.  or any animal rescue society you may wish.

Julia will be lovingly remembered by her mother and father, Leigh and Kevin (Calgary AB); brother, Alex (Nanaimo, BC); her Mama, Julianne Perks (Calgary AB); Auntie Erin Perks and Uncle James Timchak (Calgary AB), Uncle Jeff Perks and Aunt Tobie (Sooke BC); her cousins Morgan, Nicholas, Brittany, and Justine; and her Nan, Mary Button (St. Chads NFLD); her aunts and uncles, and many cousins in Newfoundland and across Canada.

Julia was predeceased by her Papa, Gerald Perks.
