Obituary of Jeanie (Sheena) Barclay
BARCLAY, Jeanie (Sheena) McEwan Park
October 9, 1932 – Airdrie, Scotland
February 7, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Sheena Barclay (nee Ferguson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the age of 90 years.
Born and raised in Airdrie, Scotland, to parents James and Jeanie Ferguson. Sheena was the youngest sibling with three brothers, Tom, Kelso, and George.
Sheena was married to Robert Barclay September 3, 1955 in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1965 they immigrated to Canada, buying a new home in Calgary, AB, in the new neighborhood of Acadia. They joined St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and became choir members and were involved in many church functions. The annual St. Andrews Burns Supper being a favourite. In later years Sheena joined the Notables, a singing group in St. Andrews. They were also members of The Scottish Country Dance club and enjoyed many years dancing together. For many years Sheena and Bob volunteered at Ronald McDonald house, cooking, and serving meals in the home.
Sheena’s passion were the summers she and Bob spent in Peachland, BC, in their motorhome.
Shortly after arrival in Calgary, AB, Sheena was employed by Foothills Hospital in Information Services, where she worked for 32 years before retiring in 1997.
The Barclay family will always fondly remember the delicious annual New Year’s Dinner she prepared for almost 50 years in her Acadia home.
Sheena was predeceased by husband, Bob, in 2021. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, several of whom she was extremely close.
