Obituary of Audrey Medlicott (nee Copley)

December 20, 1929 - Castlerea, Ireland

February 7, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Kathleen Audrey Marie Medlicott (nee Copley) of Calgary, AB, a phenomenal friend, mother, grandmother and wife passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the age of 93 years. She was born and raised in Ireland where she was an accomplished athlete (tennis, field hockey) and where she obtained her training in nursing. She met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Hal, at Adelaide Hospital, and they married and moved to Canada in 1955.

Audrey and Hal spent many wonderful years in Pincher Creek, AB, (including the arrival of seven children in eleven years!!!), then moved to Calgary in 1967.  Here, she was a busy sports mom, ferrying children to hockey, golf, track and skiing events. Audrey and Hal loved spending time with family and friends and spent many hours gardening, walking their beloved dogs, playing bridge and volunteering. They were active volunteers at Southwood United Church, the Food Bank and NeighbourLink. In addition, Audrey worked in Hal’s medical office for many years.

Audrey had a wonderful way of making everyone feel welcome and special with her smile, sense of humour, and genuine warmth. Even those she met briefly felt they had a new friend.

Audrey is survived by her children, Helen (Jack Reeve), Kyra (Colin Simmons), Kate, Judy (Bill Forshner), Marcia, Nigel and Shaun (Lynne Searles); her grandchildren, Skye, Holly, Aimee, Danielle, Robert, Steve, Katie, Genevieve, Mikayla, Payton, Julia, Rylee, William, Matthew, Tegan, Madison, Indigo, Emerson and Bowe.  She was predeceased by her husband Hal, parents, Thomas and Agnes, brothers, Robert, Alfred, Edward and Hubert, daughter-in-law Lesley and granddaughters, Alexandra and Isobel.

A Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be held at Southwood United Church (10690 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Southwood United Church. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
