Betty COOPER

Obituary of Betty Kathleen COOPER

It is with loving thoughts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Betty; our Mom and Nana. Born in New Westminster, BC, she came to Calgary in 1949 as a newly-wed and started a family in 1953. Betty had a life-long passion for the spoken word. At age six, she studied speech and drama, receiving her teaching diploma from Trinity College at seventeen. Her well-honed voice and vibrant personality set the stage for making her mark as a radio commentator, TV host, executive producer, script-writer, performer, college instructor, professional speaker and trainer. As a coach, author and educator she helped thousands of people speak more effectively. A pioneer among female broadcasters, she was the first female producer at CBC radio in Calgary. In 2006, Betty was proud to be recognized as a Woman of Vision by Global TV. Betty will be missed by her sons, Bill (Bernadette), Terry (Valerie), and Bob (Averie); grandchildren, Valerie (Ian), Chris, Tim (Leah), Nicola (James), Chris (Chrystal) Dennis (Karrah), Nathan, Jonathan (Brigitte) and Lyndsay. Betty was predeceased by Cedric, her beloved husband of fifty-five years, in 2005. Funeral Services will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd (408 – 38th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the church: www.anglicangoodshepherd.ca We would like to thank the staff at Providence Care Centre for the exceptional care of Betty.
