Obituary of Rita Hester Stinson
Rita Stinson, loving, loyal and devoted wife of Willy Stinson, (nee Millican), passed away peacefully in the middle of a stunning sunrise on Thursday, August 15, 2019, with her family by her side.
Our mom had a long, full life overflowing with family, friends, and community activities. She and our dad were married for sixty-seven years. She was born in 1933 and lived her life exclusively in the neighbourhood of Hillhurst in northwest Calgary. She had a deep, abiding passion for gardening and loved to be outdoors working with her hands in the soil. She loved animals, filling our childhood home with pets of all kinds. Our mom adored her grandchildren, always being there for them when they needed her. She loved holding their little hands and walking with them to the park, taking them on a bus ride downtown, or sitting in her chair, watching them play in her backyard.
Left behind to remember and celebrate her life are her daughters, Kim (Rick), Stephanie (Rob), and Leigh-Ann (Tony); sons, Darren (Karen) and Derrick (whom we all call "Bub"); grandchildren, Chris, Shawna (Curtis), Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jack, Jeremy, Kyle, and Bryce; as well as great-grandchildren, Jacob, Harlow, and Mason.
Mom was predeceased by her beloved son, Darcy in 2005 and her cherished grandson, Mike in 2018.
Our mom is now resting in peace. We are sad beyond words, will miss her comedic ways, but feel so blessed to have had her in our lives. Sleep in grace, Mom - we love you.
There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
A special thanks to our youngest brother Bub, for whom we are all so very grateful. He watched over our mom, and took care of her every single day for the past many years. "Without you Bub, she wouldn't have been able to remain comfortably living in her own home." Thank you also to the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses at the Rockyview General Hospital, unit 73, and to Barb Dunsmore, her neighbour; thank you so much for your friendship.
