Obituary of Nabil Tawfiq Lutfi MANSOUR

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nabil Tawfiq Lutfi Mansour on Tuesday November 8, 2016. Born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1946, Nabil had a wonderful childhood and spent much time with friends and family along the Tigris River. Nabil completed a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Baghdad and moved to Calgary in 1971 to further his studies at the University of Calgary. Along with several close friends, Nabil started the Solar Engineering Society of Canada Inc., which remained to this day one of his passions. In 1981, Nabil met his wife, Becky Lam, whom he was married to for 34 years until her passing in 2015. Nabil started his company, Solar Engineering Group Ltd., and remained self-employed until his passing, never wanting to retire. Nabil was a pioneer in photovoltaics and was most proud of his work on the Sandstone Valley Ecumenical Centre in 1986 which included solar panels that continue to work today. Nabil had many passions including mentoring through APEGA, gardening, permaculture and had a love for animals since he was a child. In recent years, Nabil made significant trips to Cuba to learn about organic farming and holistic medicine. Nabil also loved hosting many friends at his home with his wife and was a very good cook. Nabil was driven, hard working, straight-forward and unrelenting. He had creative ideas and had his own approach. Nabil was diagnosed in May, 2016 with pancreatic cancer and remained determined and hopeful that he would be cured. Nabil is survived by his daughter, Vivianne (Shaun). He was predeceased by his wife, and his brother and two sisters. Nabil will also be missed by his many many friends.
