Obituary of William MILLAR
William Millar of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the age of 93 years.
Bill was born and raised in Calgary. Following high school, he joined the RCAF and after training was assigned to RAF Squadron #102, Pocklington England. Bill was a Bomb Aimer and on his 13th bombing mission was shot down over Germany. He was captured and was a POW, Stalag Luft IIIB, where he remained a "guest of the Fuhrer" for 18 months. Upon returning home, Bill played for the Calgary Stampeders in 1945 and 1946. He married Bobbie Smith in 1946 and together they made their home in Calgary and raised a family. Bill worked in the Insurance Industry and later opened his own Hobby Store, "Uncle Bill's Hobbies".
Bill is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Bruce (Luzy) of Calgary and Greg of Ontario; grandchildren Matthew, Kate and Luke. He was predeceased by his wife Bobbie, son James, and daughter-in-law Janelle.
Bill's family are thankful for the wonderful care he received at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre.
At Bill's request, a family graveside service took place at Queen's Park Cemetery.
