Obituary
Obituary of Laurie Anne HUNN ROGERS
On November 8th, a sunny and beautiful Sunday, Laurie Hunn-Rogers joined the angels who watched over her since her breast cancer diagnosis 13 years ago. She passed on knowing she was loved immeasurably, surrounded by her family and with a beautiful smile on her face. Laurie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 12, 1955. She spent her childhood travelling the world with her family. Her curiosity and passion for travel and people would bring her to many beautiful places throughout her life. After obtaining her degree in French from the University of Calgary, she travelled to Europe where she lived and worked in France. In 1988 Laurie met her loving husband Kenny Rogers, and they set off to see the world together for over 27 joyful years. During that time she was Momma Bear to Kendra, Mamacita to John, Jenna and Jeremy. Laurie is survived by her dear mother and father, Dene & Gerry; and leaves her siblings Rick (Dawn), Randy (Kathy), Kelley (John) and Auralee (Glen); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives. A friend to the animals, Laurie had many loving companions in her life including her rescue dog Stella whom she called her guardian angel. Kind, thoughtful and caring, Laurie took a real interest in everyone she met, enriching the lives of all she knew. From her tennis friends, dragon boat team, support groups and golf leagues; to her neighbours, her book club, and skiing and hiking groups; Laurie touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and joie de vivre. She was a devoted daughter, a caring sister, a loving wife, a comforting mother, a loyal friend, and a true inspiration to all those that knew her. Laurie will be with us in the silent snowfalls of winter, in the sky as the sun rises, with the birds in the trees, and in the butterflies of summer. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lupichuk of the Tom Baker Cancer Center, all of the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 47 of Special Services at The Foothills Hospital, and the loving staff, nurses, doctors and volunteers of The Agape Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at the Calgary Winter Club on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 2:00pm to 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Salvation Army's Agape Hospice where Laurie spent her last days, or to the Alberta Humane Society. We also ask that you take a moment to hug those close to you and let them know how much they mean to you each and every day.
