Obituary of Rose "Lolly" KERNICK Luzzi)

Rose (Lolly) Kernick, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the age of 94 years. Rose was born in Fort William, Ontario and moved to Geraldton, Ontario where she met her husband Melville John (Jack) Kernick and married him in 1939. Barbara Joan was born in Geraldton in 1942 and her sister Judith Ann was born in Geraldton in 1944. The family then moved to Cameron Falls, Ontario where Kenneth Ray was born in 1948. In 1950 a tragic family car accident took the life of Jack Kernick. After many months in Port Authur hospital Rose moved to Hamilton, Ontario to be near her sister Anne and mother Mary. By 1952 all the children were living in Hamilton with their mother. Rose worked for Ontario Hydro until retirement at age 62. She remained in Hamilton, Ontario until 2003 when she moved to Calgary, Alberta to be near her daughter Judith Ann. She lived in her own apartment there until she was 89 years old and then moved to Staywell Manor Care Home. She had many visits to the hospital in the last five years but maintained a very active life right till the end when she passed peacefully and with dignity at We Care Hospice on Sarcee Road. She lived a full life and was loved by many. We will miss her dearly. Rose is survived by her children, Judith Ann Hess (nee Pihlstrom) and son in-law Uri Hess, Kenneth Ray Kernick and daughter in-law Betty Kernick; grandchildren, Jodi Stuart Hodgson (Kirsten), Kyle Ernest Pihlstrom, Jennifer Asselstine (Sam), Kevin and Bradley Kernick; four great grandchildren, Maeve and Alec Asselstine, Courtney Capaniuk (Scott), Keenen Clark, ; great-great granddaughter, Charlee Capaniuk. Rose was predeceased by her husband Melville John (Jack) Kernick in 1950; daughter Barbara Joan Kernick (Sister Gemma of the Sisters' of Saint Joseph, Hamilton, ON) in 2002. A Memorial Service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 2:00p.m Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
