Obituary of Robert William TOWNSEND

August 9, 1930 – Calgary, Alberta February 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Robert Townsend beloved husband of Hilda Townsend (nee Keller), of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday February 25, 2019 at the age of 88 years. Bob was born in Calgary, Alberta to parents Ira (Titch) and Annie Townsend. Following in his Fathers and Grandfathers footsteps, Bob had a long and successful career with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He started as a Rear-end Brakeman. Bob retired in 1988 after 38 years of service as a Freight/Passenger Conductor. In 1953 Bob married Lynne Racy. Together they had four children Robert, William, Dahn and Toby Townsend. In 1970 he married Hilda Keller (nee Hansen) a widow with three children, Fred, Anne and Kathleen Keller. Together they had their only child, Jason Townsend. Bobs’ daughter Dahn and Hilda’s daughter Anne, passed before him. His grandchildren are: Logan Townsend, Odyn Townsend, Sarah Keller, Tammy Pearson and Natasha Bray. After retiring, Bob and Hilda enjoyed twenty years as snowbirds going South to Mesa, Arizona. Bob volunteered for many years at the Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport. He loved their life there, biking, dancing, playing water polo, golfing and playing bridge. Bob was a real people person. He drove a taxi and volunteered for fifteen years at the Talisman Center. He was an avid cycler with the Easy Rider Club. Bob had a great sense of humor, very easy going, and was a joy to be around. A Service will be held at Woodcliff United Church () on Saturday, March 2nd 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Church. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
