Obituary of Henrietta Ruth MacGregor
MacGREGOR, Henrietta Ruth February 21, 1929 - Sarnia, Ontario August 27, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta Fearless and fabulous, Henrietta MacGregor passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the age of 85 years. She was the first child born to Nicholas and Eleanor Plain in Sarnia, Ontario on February 21, 1929. She was an athlete, and developed her love of all team sports, in high school, enjoying basketball in particular. She made lifelong friends during her work with Polymer. She married and had four children. She maintained a strong connection with her family on Aamjiwnaang First Nation. In 1965, she moved to Alberta to be with her husband, but missed her home. By the time she had saved enough money to go back, she found she could not leave the beautiful Alberta sky. She worked full time at Canada Post in Calgary for 26 years. Her life evolved, and as a single parent, she began to develop her many talents. She learned to swim, and enjoyed many years competing with Calgary Masters Swim Club. She developed her artistic talents, most notably painting. Her post-retirement job was as an actress, working on North of 60, which led to an ACTRA membership and many other opportunities. She was an avid volunteer with theatre companies, and at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. She loved the outdoors, and was a member of the Westwinds and Skrastins hiking clubs. She was a member of the Calgary Scrabble Group and the West Hillhurst Go-getters. The dreams she achieved included taking all of her grandchildren to Disneyland, travelling, winning a medal for 200-metre butterfly in Japan, and working in a BuenaVista production (Shanghai Noon). She loved all her children equally and was proud of all of their accomplishments. She taught us the importance of living life fully and being kind. Henrietta will be remembered and missed by her children, RoseAnne (Peter Yardley), Eva Marie, Alex and Stephanie; her grandchildren, Ben, Adam, Brooks, Gates and Jasmine; her niece Alison (Bruce Cutknife); and great nieces Heather, Vivienne, June; her grand Cassius, all extended family and anyone who had the good fortune to meet her. Henrietta would like to thank homecare and her caregivers Kitty, Marva, Caroline, Brenda, Genevieve and Evelyn for helping to maintain her independence. She also appreciated help and visits from her friend, Diane Meadows. A Celebration of Life for Henrietta will be held at the Best Western Port O Call, 1935 McKnight Blvd. NE. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 2:00 pm. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
