Obituary of Douglas Brian GIRLING
GIRLING - Douglas Brian September 11, 1953 - March 17, 2013 Douglas Brian Girling passed away March 17th, 2013 at 59 years of age after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. Doug was born in Edmonton, Alberta on September 11, 1953. He worked several years on drilling rigs and at the gas plant in Turner Valley but lived most of his life in Calgary. For the past 15 years Doug worked at the Huntington Hills Community Centre, maintaining the ice for hockey and curling in the winter and tending to the grounds and ball diamonds in the summer. Curling was Doug's favorite sport to watch and he took great pride in making sure the ice he put in was perfect. Fishing was also a huge part of Doug's life and he got out to cast a line whenever he could. Doug is survived by Lynn's children Vicki (James and son William) Dalton, Jeffrey (Lisa and children William, Spencer, John and Kaleb) Mingo, and Ryan (Ashley and children Simon and Makayla) Mingo; his sister Kelly and brother-in-law Kimball Murray and their children Amanda (Jesse Uliana and children Trinity and Kane) Murray and Chandler (Jaylene Bodner) Murray; and his brother Michael and sister-in-law Anita Girling and their daughter Tiah. He was predeceased by his parents Maxine and Jack Girling; his sister Lynn Mingo; his niece-in-law Kelly Mingo; and his brother-in-law Terry Mingo. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Monday, April 1, 201 at1:30p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 - 325 Manning Rd.
