Kathleen OWENS

Obituary of Kathleen Alice OWENS

"Say not in grief she is no more but live in thankfulness that she was." It is with wonderful memories that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay). Kay was born in Calgary in 1921 to the kind and loving Barnes family - she is survived by her brother Tom who faithfully called her every week until he was no longer able to. She was loved and cherished by all and her memory will be carried on with love. Kay had a great sense of humour, was fiercely independent, had a passion for learning, kept true to her religious beliefs and definitely was not politically correct which created many interesting and memorable moments. She had a beautiful singing voice and even in her weakest moments could be heard singing with her daughter Sylvia. She left with a great love for her children Ted (Lisa), Bob (Nancy) and Sylvia (Moe). She felt blessed for her grandchildren Cameron (Kristi), Claire, Greg (Adelle), Eric (Robyn) and step-grandchildren Holly (Mike) and Daniel. She was particularly blessed to be a great-grandmother to Finn, Quin, Kyle and Gabrielle. Kay leaves behind many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart. Special thanks to Kay's nieces Joan and Sharon for their kindness and compassion - she enjoyed their visits and outings and was most appreciative of everything they did for her - she loved them dearly. Thank you to Kay's niece Diane and her husband Steve, for welcoming her into their home, she really enjoyed her visits and in particular Steve's great sense of humour. To Gerry, Liz and Jerry - thank you so much for your hard work in enabling Kay to live in her home for one more year - it was a wonderful experience for all involved. Thanks to Shirleen and Franka for your kindness and support while Kay was at home. To Rick, Lisa, Dylan and Craig - Kay could not have asked for better neighbors who quickly became special friends - she was so appreciative of everything you did for her. Thank you to Catherine for your care of Kay, you went from being strangers to friends. Our love to Olive, who remained friends with Kay for over 70 years and shared a special bond with her. To everyone at the Mayfair Care Centre we extend our deepest gratitude for the support, compassion and excellent care given to Kay throughout her journey. It was Kay's wish to be cremated. A memorial bench in Kay's name will be placed in Edworthy Park - she loved walking her dog "Spencer" there and would welcome anyone to sit down and enjoy! In lieu of flowers those friends wishing to remember Kay may make a donation to the Alzheimer's Society. "The song is ended but the memory lingers on".
