Alice RANNIE

Obituary of Alice Frances Mary RANNIE

Alice Rannie, a long-time resident of the Calgary area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Cedar's Villa Residence. Born in 1914 in Hoadley, Alberta, Alice was a talented seamstress, active community member, and mother of four children, Marcelene, Daryll, Donna and William. In 1965 she married Lawrence (Gerry) Rannie, and the two lived in Prince George BC until 1982. They had a busy social life and enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing and participating in community events. While living in Prince George they became Arthur Murray dance instructors and taught many classes over a number of years. In 1982 they moved to Abbotsford for a few years and moved on to Calgary, Alberta in 1986. Both became active in community activities and had many friends. Alice always kept up with current affairs and enjoyed a lively conversation. She had many hobbies; two that she excelled at were gardening (often winning local contests) and ballroom dancing. Alice had an infectious laugh and a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She is survived by sisters; Anne, Evelyn and Elsie; daughters Marcelene and Donna and son, William; grandchildren Malcolm, Timothy, Donnie, Laurie, Jeffery, Leslie, Melanie, Brooke and Paige; as well as many great-grandchildren and friends. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Gerry and beloved son Daryll. A Celebration of Alice's Life will be held in the spring of 2012 at Queen's Park Cemetery, with posted notice to follow.
