Obituary of Gloria Mary O'NEILL

With love and sadness we announce that Gloria Mary O'Neill slipped away from us on June 14, 2011 at age 85 at Sarcee Hospice in Calgary. Born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary to Anne and Roman Myskow, Gloria spent her formative years in Calgary, Canmore, and Drumheller, settling in Calgary as an adult. She will always be remembered as an unfailingly kind, supportive, and loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. An early environmentalist, she combined her love of gardening with a commitment to composting and recycling, always wary of the use of chemicals in her garden and yard; always watchful and protective of living things. Gloria was a gracious, welcoming and generous host with a dry, understated sense of humour. She had a keen intellect and an avid interest in local and world affairs, which she monitored with her favourite media: newspaper, television, and Macleans. She is survived by her loving family; children: Shelagh, Michael, Kathleen; grandchildren: Jessica, Savannah, Sascha, Siobhan, Brechan; sister Sonia; nephews: Lawrence, Neil, Alan, Colin; nieces: Karyn, Elaine, Joanne, Mari. She also leaves behind Jeanne Ireland, her longtime childhood friend. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Tom, with whom she spent wonderful times, together with family and friends, at Bragg Creek. We miss you something awful Mom, Gloria; the sound of your voice, and 'Gloria-isms': "Hello 'ello!" and "Toodle-loo!".
